Goa Beyond
Beaches

A private goa heritage journey — old churches, spice estates and Konkan culture

Goa has been so thoroughly colonised by beach tourism that most visitors never find the extraordinary place underneath. The Portuguese were here for 450 years — longer than the British were in India. That occupation left a culture, an architecture, an Indo-Portuguese cuisine and a way of life that exists nowhere else on earth.

Goa Beyond Beaches

Goa has been so thoroughly colonised by beach tourism that most visitors never find the extraordinary place underneath. The Portuguese were here for 450 years — longer than the British were in India. That occupation left a culture, an architecture, an Indo-Portuguese cuisine and a way of life that exists nowhere else on earth.

Day by Day

The journey, unfolded

Day 1
Arrival · Panaji · Latin Quarter
Arrive and walk Fontainhas — Goa's Latin Quarter, Portuguese townhouses in faded ochre and green, a Catholic chapel on every corner, the smell of Catholic bakeries.
Days 2–3
Old Goa · The Churches
The Basilica of Bom Jesus holds the incorrupt body of St Francis Xavier. The Sé Cathedral is the largest church in Asia. The Church of St Cajetan was modelled on St Peter's in Rome. Your guide explains the theological programme of the architecture.
Day 4
Spice Estate · Konkan Lunch
A working spice estate in the Goan interior — nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, vanilla growing together. Lunch cooked by the estate family using everything grown around you.
Day 5
Divar Island · Departure
The ferry to Divar Island — time has stopped there. A village of Portuguese houses and cashew trees, where the old Goa lives undisturbed. Transfer to airport.
