Kodaikanal — "Gift of the Forest" in Tamil — is South India's most intimate hill station. Set high in the Palani Hills, it retains a quieter, more personal character than the busier hill stations further north: misty mornings on Coaker's Walk, boat rides on the star-shaped Kodai Lake, and shola forest trails that run thick with eucalyptus and wild rhododendron.
The drive up from the plains is itself part of the experience — Ghat roads climbing through hairpin bends as the air cools and the views open out. Pillar Rocks, Silver Cascade and the remote, permit-only Berijam Lake reward those who venture beyond the lake promenade.
